I go through phases of people or things I’m obsessed with. For a while, it had been Ryan Reynolds. He is still incredibly de-lish. I’ve also had a Brad Pitt phase, a David Boreanez phase… It’s not limited to actors. I’ve obsessed over music, musicians, TV shows, directors, HGTV. Whatever it is, I need to indulge in all of the things all the time that relate to said obsession. It’s my zen place where I go to escape from whatever is stressing me out.
My love of Johnny Depp goes way, way back. 21 Jump Street, back. I watched every episode of that show as a kid. I was in 6 or 7th grade. His posters lined my walls thanks to Bop magazine (along with the likes of Kirk Cameron, Alyssa Milano and the Cory’s… I mean, I was 12.)
A couple of years ago, my obsession with JD resurfaced after scoring all 5 seasons of 21 Jumpstreet on DVD for $20 and re-watching them. That led to me bingeing on all of his movies. I’d watched most of them over the years but I found a few gems I’d never seen before. They range from the totally weird to really amazing. One thing I can say about all of them? Regardless if the movie was good or bad, I always enjoy his performance. He just commands the screen. Very few actors fall into his league in my opinion. And of the few that do, he’s the prettiest by far. He’s also my birthday twin, so of course, we’re destined to be besties for life.
Imagine how fangirl-giddy I got when the trailer for his new movie Transcendence showed before Wolf Of Wallstreet. I’ve been waiting for this movie. It’s sci-fi, super tech wrapped up in fantasy goodness. It’s a “straight” roll for him meaning no crazy makeup or costumes or weird accents… well, not right off the bat. It’s directed by Wally Pfister. It’s his directorial debut, however he’s been the DP on the Dark Knight Trilogy, Moneyball, Inception… so you know it’s going to at least look amazing. From the trailer, it looks incredible. AND IT’S IN IMAX.
I’m so pumped. Check the trailer. I’ll be there, opening night, giddier than a kid on Christmas.
Maybe now we can all stop talking about how bad The Lone Ranger was? For the record, I didn’t hate it. I thought The Tourist was way worse. That was a serious turd of a movie. Lone Ranger was just long and not near as fun as the trailer made it out to be.
